Back to School Basics: The Favorites

Labexperiment is an interior design team providing custom interior design prescriptions to home ailments against empty room syndrome, shoddy furniture fatigue, and design direction turmoil.

A young couple from Texas came to Labexperiment for help furnishing their new San Francisco apartment. With only a mattress and some futon cushions keeping them from sitting on the floor, they needed a whole new set of furnishings that builds an environment in their new home that reflects their creative personalities.

The team at Labexperiment was excited to transform their space, and this ‘before’ photo shows what it looked like prior to the room prescription.

The team quickly went to work designing prescription packages for three of their rooms. The living room prescription was designed to be comfortable, cozy and warm, with lots of color and life.

To meet these requirements, Labexperiment utilized these two tactics, which you can try with your own room at home:

They developed a rich color palette of chocolate, caramel, turquoise and chartreuse which would be both warm and vibrant, but the item that really set the tone for the room is the fantastic ikat rug from Aldea Home—the bold pattern is like a piece of art.

Mix in items such as Aldea Home's Sofia Rug, Citrine Labryinth Pillow, and Floral Tile Cube Ottoman to develop a bold patterned theme.

The other furnishings were kept simple so it wouldn’t feel too busy, but the room was layered with different textures—velvet, leather, linen, chunky knit, wood and ceramic elements that complement each other. Labexperiment even made a custom floor lamp out of a mossy tree branch for some extra organic texture!

Try throwing together pieces such as the Enchanted Garden Chandelier, Hans Leather Chair, and Albion Burl Slice Tables for some dramatic textural play.

Here is the transformed living room—quite a difference, and it was all accomplished for a set design fee within three months. In addition to the rug, the wood side tables and labyrinth pillow are also from Aldea Home, and with the helpful sales staff, you could create a similarly bold room!
