For Aldea Home & Baby's 9th Birthday the staff posed in our signature seasonal rooms. We donned our best black and white outfits trimmed with gold, brass, and leather and waited for our closeups. Thomas Kuoh’s was our DeMille for the day and we loved how they turned out, though we still think the screens have gotten smaller. Happy Summer, well I mean winter?? why every summer are we surprised that there is a vast amount of fog outside and why oh why does it make us sooo moody. We are still committed to celebrating and therefore.....
Christmas in July, of course!
Christmas is on our minds, but only out of force of some weird Midwest habits. So blame Mark and Alyssa. Regardless, we would love to find some excuse to celebrate with you all in the middle of summer. Into celebrating Kwansa, Hanukkah or any other non-Christian denomination? We found some beautiful Jonathan Alder ornaments and felt that we could share the love. As well, we've added some TARTINE pastries to the mix to allow you to experience the cool down we've all been expecting.

July, August and September are our prime months to show you what we are passionate about here on Valencia. In honor of Mother’s Day, we’re partnering with The Women’s Building to celebrate the wisdom of the mothers and women in our lives. The Women’s Building is an iconic landmark and groundbreaking community center that fosters creativity, joy and safety in the vibrant community of women in San Francisco. Since purchasing the historic Dovre Hall in 1971, the San Francisco’s Women’s Centers (SFWC) has transformed the hall into a colorful and breathtaking landmark that reflects the rich lives of the women at the heart of The Women’s Building.
The Women’s Building features an internationally-renowned mural, Maestra Peace, that spans two exterior walls of the structure. Painted in 1994 by Juana Alicia, Miranda Bergman, Edythe Boone, Susan Kelk Cervantes, Meera Desai, Yvonne Littleton and Irene Perez, this awe-inspiring and magnificent piece depicts the inspirational contributions of women throughout history. This passionately expressive piece features some of the most spectacular detail in a city rich in the tradition of murals and truly embodies the radiant community of women that is celebrated by The Women’s Building.
Join us this Saturday, May 10, from 12-4PM to celebrate our wonderful mothers with The Women’s Building, complete with mimosas, chocolates generously donated by Chocolatier Blue, and a raffle for gift baskets. A portion from the day’s sales will be donated to benefit The Women’s Building.
I am so proud to re-launch the Aldea Home and Niños websites. It is a chance to show off what Aldea has become since we opened our doors almost eight years ago. It has been quite a journey, and I am excited for this next chapter to unfold. Through this blog I will chronicle our on-going projects and ideas. I hope to communicate what it means to us to be able to provide inspirations and great product to you.
Before I started Aldea Home, I made websites for businesses and non-profits. It's how I first learned to create environments that allow people to connect with products and ideas. But I was never satisfied with the virtual world only, and spent much of my free time traveling to places like Russia, Europe and Latin America. I loved meeting new people and learning about local crafts and design styles. Eventually I thought, why not open a store where I could share my global eclectic tastes. How hard could that be? Well, let's just say we've come a long way.
We have expanded from our original space tucked away on 17th street to a large light-filled showroom on Valencia street. In 2009 we launched a separate baby store down the block to serve the growing community of Mission District parents. At Aldea Home we have expanded our offerings beyond accessories to furniture and unique home design pieces. We are thrilled and humbled that we have been able to grow with the neighborhood, and thank our community and circle of friends who have supported our vision with their encouragements, visits and shopping with us on a regular basis.
