Cafe Du Monde: Coffee and Beignet Get Togethers

If you've never sampled coffee and beignets from New Orleans' legendary Café Du Monde, here's your chance. Come by Aldea before work and let us treat you.

About Cafe Du Monde Coffee

The secret of Café Du Monde's rich, smooth coffee dates back over 200 years. As far back as 1720, French colonists brought coffee with them to their new colonies along the Mississippi. During the French civil war, they discovered that chicory root helped them stretch out their coffee supply-and added body and flavor to the brew.

As the French settled in North America, this blending of coffee and chicory was one of the customs they brought with them. The Acadians from Nova Scotia brought it to Louisiana.

Chicory is the root of the endive plant-the same plant whose leaves we put in salads. The root of the plant is roasted, ground and mixed in with the coffee before brewing. It's been known to soften the bitter edge of dark roasted coffee. And it adds an almost chocolate flavor to the Cafe Au Lait served at Cafe Du Monde.
